African Drumming what you're looking for?

African drumming, lessons, information, courses and workshops in the UK from DRUMCULTURE.

The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires. - William Arthur Ward

UK WORKSHOPS

Most of the group spend their time travelling around Europe or working at the Music and Cultural School in The Gambia so we don’t provide any african drumming workshops in the UK at present. Some of the tutors, however, do sometimes teach at an existing drum group; the details of which are listed below (get in touch with the named contact for details of who might be teaching on a particular date):

UK DRUMMING COURSES

There are no UK courses currently scheduled for this season.

DRUM TUITION

Some of our tutors based in the UK are available for personalised one-on-one teaching sessions where the teaching can be tailored exactly to your needs. Perhaps you want to improve your technique?, or learn a more complex rhythm? or maybe want to learn to solo? Simply call or email us to discuss your particular requirements or for advice.

Cost: £7.50 per for one person (drops to £5 per hour per person for 2 or more people and additional group discounts also apply) + travel expenses at cost

DRUM WORKSHOP INFORMATION SNIPPETS

African Drumming workshops are aimed at learning and using all different cultures of African traditional music to create different rhythms and beats through drumming and song.

  • Traditional African music creates an atmosphere of warmth, a closeness and a completely different relationship between people.

  • African drumming is fun, energising and inspirational to people of different ages, backgrounds and abilities.

  • Playing the djembe drums improves co-ordination and motor skills.  It also requires concentration and focus to learn the different drum beats.

  • African drumming encourages creativity and self expression.  Drumming workshops help to reassure people of their abilities and talents and promotes self-confidence and a feeling of well-being and relaxation.

  • Drumming together and creating music as a group encourages bonding within the group and makes people much more appreciative of each other. It creates a feeling of belonging and togetherness within the group.

  • The workshops also provide an appreciation of cultural diversity both locally and globally.
